SWPPP "Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan"

Federal law requires the City to have a plan in place to protect storm water.

The SWPPP is a document which outlines practices to be followed on a construction sight to protect storm water from pollution. In the past, construction sites have been a source of pollution in the form of sediment and other pollutants that are washed from the site during a storm.

System Maintenance
The Clinton Storm Water System is comprised of 45 miles of underground piping of various sizes and materials, 165 miles of gutter, 7 detention basins and a multitude of other necessary parts. The system receives constant maintenance so that when needed it will operate properly and handle the water produced by a storm, protecting all of the homes and property in the City.
Storm water starts as precipitation in the form of rain or snow. After falling in the street, it finds its way into the gutter and then into a catch Basin.

This channel on 2050 north 2100 west belongs to Davis County, it eventually receives over 90% of the storm water in Clinton. this water then flows west into the Howard Slough Waterfowl Management Area.
Please keep in mind that the Storm Water System and the Sewer System are not the same system. Water and waste entering the sewer system is treated extensively before it is returned to the environment. Storm water is not treated! It flows directly into Howard Slough Waterfowl Management Area.

Boy Scout Projects have helped place markers next to the catch basins in Clinton City.

The beautiful park on the corner of 1800 n and 1000 w serves as a detention basin for when storms produce more water than the piping system can handle.

Detention Basins like this one receive the surplus water sometimes filling to the top and then after the storm subsides, the water flows back into the piping system. This is one of seven basins in the City. Meadows Park and Kestrel Park are other examples. 

Pond Park is also a detention basin. Unlike the rest, it is a "wet basin" meaning that it normally contains water and the level rises during a storm.



Street Sweeping

Street Sweeping is an essential part of the City's plan to protect Storm Water, it also keeps our City clean. City personnel regularly sweep the streets. You can help by sweeping driveways and walks instead of washing with water, collecting grass clippings that are blown into the curb, and picking up trash in the street near your home.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
